This is definitely one of the funniest war movies of all time! Donald Sutherland, who plays a hippie(!) tank commander, seems out of place in a WW2 setting. However, he had me laughing the whole way through! I can’t imagine what this film would be like without his hysterical performance. One of my favorite scenes is when Sutherland’s three Sherman tanks attack a Nazi railroad station while playing Hank Williams’ music on a loud speaker! I realize that this “WW2 movie” has a definite 70’s feel to it (especially with one of the hit songs of the decade, Burning Bridges), & some don’t like this movie for that reason. I can’t help but have fun everytime I see this! The tanks, even the German ones, look much more authentic than those in Patton or The Battle of the Bulge. This is a real treat for WW2 tank buffs like me who appreciate authenticity. I know the plot is hokey, but who cares? If you want to see a war movie that isn’t depressing (like most) or boring then this is for you!

Well, our guy Clint is at it again…he’s after the money and no little event like WWII is gonna stop him. Thirty years before George Clooney led his “Three Kings”(also a fine film), to make a big score in Desert Storm, Lt. Kelly(Eastwood) gathered up his motley crew and stormed Europe for a little heist of their own.

The men are tired. They’ve been dodging the blasts not only from the German’s, but from our side as well. They just want a little R&R…maybe, someplace where there’s a little action going on..and not the kind the war has to offer. When Kelly stumbles onto some top secret information, the men get there second wind. Well you would too if there was millions of gold to be had.He puts together an array of colorful characters that includes the likes of guys called, “Oddball”,”Crapgame”,”Job”, “Cowboy” and Master Sgt. “Big Joe”. These guys jump at the chance to take home a token of the war. But wait!…the gold is safely tucked away in a guarded bank!…and what’s more..it’s deep behind enemy lines!.But you don’t those little obstacles will stop these guys, do you?

Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, and the world’s first “hippie”..Donald Sutherland will take you on a dangerous but fun and exciting adventure, as they go for the gold. These characters are off the wall and will keep you smiling. The weapons they use are not exactly General Issue either. Tanks that play loud music and shoot paintballs are only part of what the Germans at the other end have in store for them.

Also included are such greats as Carroll O’Connor, the gung-ho General who thinks these guys are out to win the war,Harry Dean Stanton, Gavin MacLeod, and Stuart Margolin. You’ll love the music, especially the theme song, and all the action and great cinematography in the wonderful widescreen presentation.

This film from 1970 looks and sounds fabulous on this DVD. A beautiful clear picture and great sound in DD5.1. When those tanks come rumbling in..you will know it!It may also be viewed in French(but not in surround sound), and has subtitles in English and French, which are nicely placed below the film in the black bar area. There is also a theatrical trailer.

This is a great Eastwood film,terrific war story, lots of fun, and has a supporting cast on the brink of greatness!…Check it out and ..enjoy…Laurie

Statham plays his usual tough guy “Transporter” role, and Tyrese Gibson does everything but sing the Coca Cola jingle as arch rival Machine Gun Joe. They throw in a little inspirational family story to soften it up a little, and a teensy tiny little budding romance with dialogue like:

Recommended for Statham fans and action movie buffs, but I can’t see this one going down as a classic for all time.

I hate just about every Paul W.S. Anderson film, but he actually pulled this one off. The action scenes are intense, helped by the use of practical effects, rather than CGI overkill. Just wait until you see the tanker truck getting flipped in slow motion. Almost as cool as the semi truck flip in The Dark Knight. Jason Statham is the action star of this decade. The man has muscles everywhere and does the most with his limited acting range. Ian McShane of HBO’s Deadwood is given some good lines and is one of the more memorable characters in the movie. I hope he gets more big screen parts in the future. Joan Allen turns in performance I could have never pictured her doing before today, and it worked.

Death race will likely give you a headache with it’s shaky camera movements and some of the dialogue could have used some work, but I had a great time. If your of the male gender, the cars, guns, explosions and babes will keep you entertained.

This is one of the greatest Godzilla movies ever produced, but this DVD version is far from perfect. Unfortunately, this is objective a re-issue of the same DVD released a few years ago. The film transfer is exactly the same as the one previously released by ADV films, which has a recently re-dubbed mono soundtrack. The ADV soundtrack is considerable injurious to the one originally produced for American International Pictures in 1968, which featured an top-notch voice-cast and a different script. Apparently the AIP version can’t be published because the ownership rights are in limbo. Based on the camouflage notes, I bought this DVD believing it had the modern AIP voice-tracks. No such luck. The folks at ADV deliberately stretch the truth. The mask art claims it’s the “50th Anniversary Special Edition”, but Ruin All Monsters was made in 1968, which makes this DVD divulge the 36th anniversary for the film (in 2004) . The 50th year, is a reference to the first Godzilla movie “Gojira” made in 1954, but the text makes no mention of Gojira or Godzilla. It also claims to gain “The fresh motion portray and soundtrack”, which is misrepresentation. The modern film was Japanese language, and this DVD isn’t even the unique English version. I would’ve been a lot less disappointed if they had at least given this version some chapter stops and stereo audio (which there isn’t) . There’s not even a menu for this coarse budget version. If you try to hit the chapter near button, the movie starts over from the beginning. There’s no menus, no extras, no subtitles, no secondary audio tracks, no trailer, no nothing. The only thing that’s different from ADV’s first snarl of this movie, is the conceal art and the addition of a music CD. The CD contains 30 mono-audio music tracks from the movie soundtrack. The music secure is fantastic, but the audio is not stereo and the fidelity is only exquisite. My point of contention is that ADV is trying to fool us into believing this movie has the fresh audio soundtrack, but instead gives you fine-print on the assist mentioning an extra music CD. Buyer beware, if you already beget the current release of this DVD, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a different version.

For the 50th anniversary of Godzilla, we have a special relelease of Demolish All Monsters on DVD. This in itself is satisfactory, and an added attraction is that there’s a second disc — a CD of the soundtrack. But there are two downsides:

— there are no special featuers — not even a theatrical trailer.

— the dub is the poorly acted fresh dub from a few years ago. The modern dub is not huge (what dubs are? Why, oh, why, don’t they also offer subtitled versions), this one is very poorly acted, more so that usual even for these types of films.

Overall, I’d unexcited recommend this to Godzilla fans (and I’ve been one since seeing King Kong vs. Godzilla in its modern US showing at the drive-in when I was a kid), but it could have been so remarkable better.

Season 4 includes episodes that never aired in the USA. I am looking forward to the March release of season 5. This is just a great traditional amine that has mystery’s for all ages. This series is 500+ episodes strong and still going in japan and i hope they will continue to release them on DVD in the USA.

I like this series. Love how Conan (aka Jimmy)solves the cases and tells how it was done.

This is an excellent documentary, but it is brutally honest. The video of the actual attack is so shocking as to be almost unwatchable, yet you have to watch once.

Almost as brutal is the effect that the prison system has on these people.

I VIEWED THIS MOVIE FOR THE FIRST TIME AT WORK AS A PART OF A VIOLENT GANG PAROLE SQUAD TRAINING CLASS. I HAVE WORKED IN THE PRISON SYSTEM FOR 10 YEARS, AND TO THIS DAY, THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO EXPRESS TO ANYONE WHO HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO THE INSIDE OF PRISON THE REAL LIVE REALITY OF PRISON LIFE. I IN AN EXTREME WAY, AS A PAROLE OFFICER, LOVING MOTHER AND WIFE RECOMMEND ANY PARENT WITH A TEEN GOING DOWN THE WRONG ROAD TO MAKE THEIR TEEN VIEW THIS MOVIE. This is a funny movie, especially the Fred Allen and Ginger Rogers section, with a great cast but why didn’t Fox include the deleted sequence with Walter Brennan and Hope Emerson as an extra? It’s included on the Hidden Hollywood Fox DVD and it’s been shown on AMC. It should’ve been included on this disc.

“In one week, he laid six time bombs. … He jumped the gun. The appointment was for 1 January. This clown began marrying people before he had the authority!” That’s what the attorney general tells the Governor Bush (!!!) of (I presume Louisiana), as the story opens in Gretna Green. That clown is Judge Melvin Bush (Victor Moore), a doddering but well-meaning old man. His daughter-in-law, the governor’s wife, proposes that they write the couples of the mistake and let them take it from there.

The first couple, Steve and Ramona Gladwyn (Fred Allen and Ginger Rogers) have the funniest moments of all five. However, two and a half years after their marriage, they live in a totally hostile atmosphere, and they don’t need help from that thunderstorm outside in the opening waking up segment. Avoiding each other, slamming doors, not saying a word–imagine what this couple think about each other. They are hosts of a radio breakfast program that mentions products of their latest sponsors. As Steve puts it, we’re “having a bit of good, clean, nauseating fun over the bacon in eggs in the morning.” We actually get a sample of their show, the Glad Gladwyns, and it’s funny: “I did what so many society women do these days. I went to Madame Yvonne’s Hairdo Heaven Madame Yvonne uses the Sensational Hairdresser. It contains that new mystery ingredient… chicken fat!”

The second involves Jefferson and Annabelle Norris (David Wayne and Marilyn Monroe) of Senatobia, Mississippi. Mrs. Norris has just won the Mrs. Mississippi beauty pageant, and I would definitely have voted for her. While she’s out winning contests, her husband is stuck feeding the baby and doing the kitchenwork. However, Annabelle’s agent has bigger plans, to expand this to the national level, which means more stay-at-home for the increasingly disgruntled Jefferson. That is, until he opens the letter. It’s interesting to see the view of house-husbands in the 1950’s compared to today.

Couple number three are Hector and Katherine Woodruff (Paul Douglas and Eve Arden). Despite the judge describing them as talkative, “yakkety yak yak”, it’s quite the opposite. Their situation is similar to that of the Gladwins, except that they get along slightly better. Thing is, there’s an air of boredom. There’s hardly anything to talk about and Hector seems to remember the days when he used to party, to the displeasure of his wife.

Frederick and Eve Melrose (Louis Calhern and Zsa Zsa Gabor)–ah yes, that couple. Mr. Melrose, an oil tycoon is pleasantly surprised when his wife suggests she meet him at his usual hotel where he retires to when conducting business in New Orleans, and she particularly asks, “don’t forget to register for me.” What follows is a show of deceit, until the letter shows up. It’s the registration form showing 5 June 1951, which if I do the math, reveals that the first marriage by the judge was done Christmas Eve 1948.

Wilson and Patricia Fisher (Eddie Bracken and Mitzi Gaynor) have a trying time. Wilson, called up for the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, presumably Korea, is not only shocked to know his wife is pregnant, but he has already gotten the letter, and he is being shipped overseas. His sergeant is totally unsympathetic to the problem, saying that he should try not to get shot. The view of 50’s morality of illegitimacy is interesting when seen from today’s eyes.

There is one goof that is seen only once. When Mr. Norris gets the letter, we see that there is just his name, city and state–no street address. Either Senatobia is small enough that the mailman knows everyone by name, or he is telepathic. And one wonders if all the letters were like that.

An interesting collection of five stories, with all performers doing their best, but notable for a young and still very beautiful Marilyn Monroe. Victor Moore would later be a plumber in The Seven Year Itch, also with MM, and this is the second of four films David Wayne appeared in with MM. Ginger Rogers would appear with MM in Monkey Business.

Unfortunately, Little Shop of Horrors and every other Roger Corman Filmgroup production lapsed into public domain years ago and have generally been available on VHS and DVD only in poor-quality editions ranging from merely bad to atrocious. (The only Filmgroup features to get a decent official or semi-official release so far are Bucket of Blood, Beast from Haunted Cave, and Night Tide.) After researching every DVD version of Little Shop of Horrors available (there are at least eight!) I played a hunch and went with GoodTimes to replace my VHS copy, and I’m very pleasantly surprised at the overall excellent quality of the source print. When I saw the “preserved using the best available elements” line at the beginning of this disc I thought ‘yeah, right,’ but I have to admit that this is the brightest, cleanest, sharpest (if not exactly razor-sharp) print of this film I’ve ever seen. The black level, contrast, gray values, and shadow/highlight detail are fine, and physical damage is limited only to some very light speckling and blemishing (!!). On the downside, the transfer itself seems to be somehow deficient (low bit rate?), causing areas of flat white or smoothly gradated grays in the image to exhibit some very faint but noticeable pixelation or banding, especially during the opening credit sequence (areas of flat color seem to be DVD’s Achilles Heel). The casual viewer probably won’t notice this phenomenon unless it’s pointed out, but it’s there. That said, the superior quality of the source print more than makes up for this one barely noticeable flaw; this is still most likely the best edition yet available of this classic ’sick humor’ gem and well worth the bargain price. It definitely blows away every TV print and cheapjack PD video version I’ve ever eyeballed. Grab this before it goes out of print.
The movie itself still entertains tremendously today, a funny, goofy (dare I say charming?) horror-comedy that basically plays like a stage farce (most of the action takes place on one or two sets). The story is essentially a remake of Bucket of Blood with a change in locale and a few fresh twists. This time Jonathan Haze portrays everyschlep Seymour Krelboine, who lives with his alcoholic hypochondriac mother (she listens to KSIK radio) and works at Mushnick’s skid row flower shop. Seymour (temporarily) finds fame, fortune, and romance by nurturing (and eventually murdering for) an exotic talking cannibalistic plant. Mel Welles, in his finest hour (literally), steals nearly every scene with his droll portrayal of perpetually exasperated Gravis Mushnick, and Jackie Joseph (Andy Griffith Show, Who’s Minding the Mint) seems born to play pretty, ditzy Audrey. Corman regulars adding to the fun include Dick Miller (Walter Paisley in Bucket of Blood) as Fouch, a flower-eating client, John Shaner as a sadistic dentist, and 14th-billed Jack Nicholson (featured prominently on most tape and disc box art) as his masochistic patient. Shot on a shoestring in just three days (at least all the interiors), Little Shop holds up better than many big-budget comedies of the day (anyone watched Story of Mankind lately?). Much credit must be given to Charles B. Griffith, unsung hero/architect of the AIP/Allied Artists/Corman style. His list of credits reads like Corman’s greatest hits: It Conquered the World, Attack of the Crab Monsters, The Undead, Not of This Earth, Teenage Doll, Bucket of Blood, Beast from Haunted Cave, Wild Angels, Death Race 2000, etc. Griffith’s clever, witty screenplay is a model of late-50s sick humor, working in a dead-on Dragnet parody, some wonderful malapropisms and bits of wordplay, lotsa Yiddish humor, and a handful of his patented icky-creepy moments. (Griffith also voiced the plant, Audrey Jr., played a few walk-ons, and directed some second unit scenes, all uncredited.) Fred Katz’s memorable score is alternately goofy and spy-jazzy, and, unlike some of Roger Corman’s other attempts at comedy (e.g. Creature from the Haunted Sea), I find his touch just right here, ably supporting Griffith’s verbal bits with complementary editing patterns (check Sgt. Joe Fink and Det. Frank Stoolie’s hilarious introductory scene). Lighter in tone and a bit broader and more farcical than Bucket of Blood (which I personally prefer), Little Shop, judged on its own terms, is still fresh and engaging, though the low budget is obvious at times. I’m not sure how fans of the Broadway show or movie musical will react to the original (I admit to being a purist myself), but if they share a taste for low budget horror or 50s-style sick humor they’ll probably find it an offbeat treat.

Roger Corman’s Original 1960 version of “The Little Shop Of Horrors” is considered by many as a true cult classic comedy of B-Movies,even the most respected of film critics.Unfortunately depending on the tastes and opinions of film fans that were used to seeing this legendary film comedy through the public domain since there was a lack of copyright in the titles,(same thing had happen to “Night Of The Living Dead”) and for many years since the dawn of the videocassette and late late movie shows,those versions were vastly inferior and often poor-looking in terms of presentation and contrast.Now the great folks at Legend Films have finally put out a brand-new definitive and excellent restored presentation of this cult hit on DVD in both the original black & white version as well as the disc’s main presentation of showcasing a brand-new restored digitally colorized version too.As with previous selected Legend releases of classic horror/B-movies in their DVD series,the disc features a well-done and at times hilarious commentary by MST3K’s Mike Nelson and the great thing is that you can listen to the track on both versions of the film,giving the b&w version sort of a MST3K-flavor to it (I love how he refers to the opening Filmgroup logo as little Reese Cups !).Despite packaging claims that is the first time the film has been colorized,it’s actually the second colorized incarnation of the film.First colorized on videocassette in the very late ’80’s with lousy and at times amateur results,this Legend version completely blows away the first attempt and looks like it was actually filmed in color,but of course this films’ legendary budgetary constraints prevented from actually filming it in color.Of course lets not forget that the film features a very very young Jack Nicholson,in his fourth film role,in a memorable role as a crazy dentist patient.I must say,this Legend version of “Little Shop” is probably the most superior and sharpest looking out of all the previous versions of the film that you’re possibly going to see and no wonder it was transferred from an excellent 35mm print of the film ! Other extras,besides the Nelson commentary,round out the package including both restored color/unrestored b&w trailers to “Little Shop”,and the following colorized trailers for “Plan 9 From Outer Space”,”House On Haunted Hill”,”Carnival Of Souls”,and “Reefer Madness”.Plus a gallery of nine man-eating plants,if any kids are planning to do a school project on man-eating plants,this could actually be a fun reference guide,and also a very short clip called “Man Eating Plants” which is actually the president of Legend Films Barry Sandrew vigorously eating vegetable plants such as celery (always eat your vegetables folks !).Well-done packaging,excellent eye-catching menus and a sparkling transfer of both versions will definitely please any film buff,both Hollywood and B-Movie fans alike ! This is by far one of the first best DVD releases of 2006 and is highly recommended for old and new fans alike instead of those who only prefer the 1986 spectacular Frank Oz musical remake with Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.Highly recommended !

Just Recently,Buena Vista Home Entertainment in association with Roger Corman have finally released an “authorized” DVD release of “Little Shop Of Horrors” as well as a nicely restored original black & white version of Nicholson’s debut film “The Cry Baby Killer”.Unfortunately,the recent disc’s presentation of “Little Shop” is in fact the ORIGINAL colorized version,slightly mentioned above,that was first produced and eventually released to video in 1987 by Color Systems Technology.The source print used for the color version (other than the fact that the quality was directly copied off a video master for the DVD) is surprisingly in quite good condition,but it really truly is one of the worst examples of 1980’s colorization technology I’ve ever seen and will probably be the last.The colors are often the same as certain objects (ie: the outside of Mushnick’s Shop and the greens for the flowers,etc.),tons of continuity errors (ie: clothing,signs,etc.) and does anybody wish to care seeing Audrey Jr. looking like a talking watermelon plant? Reportedly,that color version was authorized by none other than Corman himself and it’s easy to see why many directors above his stature hate and disregard colorization.Nicholson/Corman fans alike aren’t going to be impressed with that bust of a release and it’s very easy to see why the ‘87 colorized version was out of circulation for many years.Easier said than done,the newly restored Legend Films release is by far,hands down,the real winner due to the technology,version options,and bonus materials !

Claudette Colbert spent most of her career at Paramount and Universal, so many of her films are unknown and largely unseen. Universal owns the pre-1949 Paramount talking film catalog, so they essentially contain the broad majority of Colbert’s films. It’s generous to witness Universal going deeper into their vault and putting out some of their lesser known material.

Three Cornered Moon (1933) – costars Richard Arlen directed by Elliott Nugent. This is a section comedy/part drama about a rich family that loses everything as a result of the Depression. The young people of the clan must go out and examine for work for the first time in their lives, and it basically follows the whole family as they adjust to their modern plot in life. I haven’t seen this one since the Paramounts were circulating on TV support in the 1980’s, but trust me, it is not nearly as bleak as it sounds.

Maid of Salem (1937) – costars Fred MacMurray, directed by Frank Lloyd. This is an above-average costume drama in which Colbert plays a young woman accused of witchcraft during the Salem witchhunts of the 1690’s. Everyone enthusiastic with the accusations has an axe to grind or some profit to build, and I consider the film did a favorable job of not only explaining this witchhunt but aesthetic noteworthy all of them – people behold a chance to construct a profit by taking advantage of the ignorance of a tremendous group of people and whipping them up into hysterics. Fred MacMurray stars as Colbert’s fiance.

I Met Him In Paris (1937) – directed by Wesley Ruggles and costars Melvyn Douglas.

A romantic comedy about a woman (Colbert) who is pursued by three suitors while on vacation in Switzerland. The top two contenders are George (Melvyn Douglas) and Gene (Robert Young) . George disapproves of Gene, but won’t say why.

Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife (1938) – Directed by Ernst Lubitsch costarring Gary Cooper.

Cooper plays a wealthy man (Michael Brandon) who has been married and divorced seven times before he meets and proposes marriage to Colbert’s character, Nicole.

Brandon has basically invented the prenuptial agreement by insisting that each bride-to-be stamp a contract giving her fifty thousand dollars a year if things don’t work out. Nicole, however, figures these are bargain basement prices and wants noteworthy more. There’s a “meet cute” scene that is pure Lubitsch in which Brandon only wants to acquire the top of a pair of pajamas and Nicole agrees to “select the bottom”.

“No Time For Admire” (1943) – Directed by Mitchell Leisen and costars Fred MacMurray.

Romantic comedy about opposites attracting has Colbert as a fashion reporter and Fred MacMurray as a “sandhog” working on an underground transportation system.

“The Egg and I” (1947) – Directed by Chester Erskine and costarring Fred MacMurray.

Bob (Fred MacMurray) and Betty (Claudette Colbert) are newlyweds. Betty discovers shortly after their marriage that Bob’s greatest desire is to rush a chicken farm, and in fact, he’s unbiased bought one. This urban gal endures the rural life so her husband can have his dream, but a unique magnificent neighbor piquant in nearby and flirting with her husband is the last straw. This movie is actually classified as a Ma an Pa Kettle film, although their role is supporting. It is already on DVD in one of the Ma and Pa Kettle DVD collections.

There is one extra feature, the featurette “Claudette Colbert – Queen of the Silver Cover”. This is also on the recently released Backlot version of 1934’s Cleopatra.

Who would ever have concept two years ago that 2009 would be the year that Sony and Universal would become the first-rate guys in classic DVD releases and that Warners would do their best to imitate Paramount by re-releasing the same ten films over and over again each time with a couple of recent extra features.

No Time for Savor and I Met Him in Paris are slightly sub-bar films and unworthy of Colbert’s grand talent. Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife is a failed screwball comedy; no, awful is a better word than failed. (Want to discover Gary Cooper protest like a chicken and inform? Then this is the turkey for you.) The gem in the collection is, of course, The Egg and I. It’s better to choose this separately.

I am an anime fan and I must say that I enjoyed Ninja Scroll immensely. I had this anime on VHS for years and recently began upgrading my anime to DVD. In my belief, this item is a staple in any anime collection!
